Black Copper Marans

The highly sought-after dark egg layers

Our History With The Breed

Like many Marans admirers, our journey with this breed began with an attraction to egg color. In the process of getting familiar with the breed, we learned that while our egg color was respectable, we had a challenging gap to close on conformation and plumage color. Our breeding philosophy for our APA accepted breeds demands we produce to the best of our ability. Whether your goals are a rainbow egg basket, a breeding flock of your own, or a potential show champion - they all cost the same to raise. Why not raise the best we can find?

Sourcing Quality Black Copper Marans

So in spring of 2024, our interest in Black Copper Marans shifted from egg color to APA breed standard. We spent last year growing out and selecting our future breeders from a brood of day-old chicks hatched by Skip Bittner. We also saw some success in the show halls, with numerous Best of Breed and Reserve Continental titles, and one Champion Large Fowl title, We are currently working with two cocks and a handful of hens from Master Exhibitor Skip Bittner, as well as 3 hens from Frank May. We will be hatching for ourselves as priority, but we will have a limited amount of chicks and eggs to sell. We look forward to what 2025 brings.
